GTIN exemptions are usually required for non-branded products or items not attached to any registered brand. To sell products in marketplaces like Amazon, sellers must either:
Provide a brand authorization letter, or
Apply for a GTIN exemption.
If you don’t have a brand authorization, follow these steps to request a GTIN exemption from Amazon:
Login to Seller Central
Go to the Add Product Page
From the top menu, click Catalogue > Add Products.
Select “List a single product from scratch using a blank interactive web form.”
Create a Listing
Choose the correct category for your product.
Start creating a new listing using the blank form.
Select Exemption
On the product listing form, choose:
For Non-Generic Product, tick “This product does not have a brand name.”
External Product ID tick - “I do not have a Product ID (GTIN).”
Complete the Listing
Fill in all required product details, including:
Product Title
Category
Product Description
Images (at least 1 clear product image)
Price, Quantity, and SKU
Double-check the details and make sure everything is correct.
Submit the Listing
Once all required fields are filled, click Submit.
Your single product listing will be created under GTIN exemption request.
Amazon usually approves GTIN exemptions within 24 to 48 hours. Once approved, you can continue listing products in the selected category.
